Safisana
Safisana developed a unique circular business model for governments and aims to create positive impact on the lives of potentially millions of people in low-income urban areas worldwide.
Background
In many low- and middle-income countries poor waste management puts a huge pressure on the natural environment, public health and related governmental budgets. Global urbanisation will only intensify this problem over the next decade.
To address this problem, Safisana developed a unique circular business model for governments, utilities and industries. It focuses on the collection of waste in poor urban communities and turn it into value by producing renewable energy and organic fertiliser.
Objective
The Safisana model has many benefits to many parties. For governments, Safisana offers a cost-efficient all-in-one solution for solid treatment of their waste problems. Industries can apply the model in their circular, energy neutral business models. And evidently, the model offers direct improvement of living environments of local communities in non-sewered urban areas. With such an extensive and complex model, the challenge was to explain the way it works to the different target groups, without being too technical or savvy about it.
Approach
We started out building a clear brand strategy by identifying the brands mission. In its core, Safisana is a business-driven social venture that aims to create an impact on a global scale by offering direct solutions in local urban communities. In other words: Local solutions, Global impact. To express that mentality in the brands visual language, we conceived ‘the Safisana ripple effect’: a logo shape that captures the magnitude of the Safisana model and their pursue of scalable impact.
In order to tell the brand story in an understandable way, it was essential to create a distinct icon set to use throughout all expressions. Using bright colours to differentiate between the various fields of impact and combining it with clean type arrangements, we created a design system that is flexible and easy to use.
Result
The result is a colourful, playful yet sophisticated brand identity that underlines the brands innovative mentality.
