Background

Eredivisie is the top division of professional football in the Netherlands. Eredivisie consists of 18 clubs and was founded in 1956. In the year 2021 Eredivisie celebrated its 65-year anniversary.

Objective

To support a yearlong of festivities like anniversary ceremonies, gala matches, campaigns and broadcasting packages, Eredivisie was looking for an addition to their brand identity we developed a few years back.

Approach

The obvious thing to do in anniversary logo-making is to add a ribbon or other type of decoration that adds a festive gesture to the brand. Our challenge was to make such an addition without losing the clean feel of the logo. Holding on to the animation principle we developed for the original logo mark, we came up with a clean and elegant three lined wreath on each side of the 65 and crowned it subtly with the Eredivisie wordmark. To finish things off we added a warm gold to the colour pallet. We worked together with ESPN to develop the leader for the seasons Eredivisie programming. 

Result

The existing brand identity evolved into an easy to adapt visual identity fit for usage on all brand expressions in a year packed with festivities. Our design for the 2021 Eredivisie kit was even integrated in the EA Sports FIFA21 game.
