Background

Masterlanguage is a Dutch national course for master’s students of languages, developed by a collaboration of six universities in the Netherlands. Masterlanguage offers an innovative, interdisciplinary and varied range of courses in seven languages.

Objective

Quality language teaching, from primary to academic education, lays an important foundation for society. The better we know each other’s language, the better we’ll understand each other. Masterlanguage is established to give students the opportunity to experience a unique variety of subjects within their language study and learn from the top experts in their field. We were asked to help position the course as a serious high-end master alternative for language students in the Netherlands and built a brand identity that would stand out from the large variety of other available courses.

Approach

Languages don’t have strict boundaries; they tend to gradually go over into one another. Exactly that is what we tried to achieve in our visual language. The creative idea concentrates around the concept broaden your horizons: a horizon as a metaphor for a student’s new perspectives on language, for the introductions to top level lecturers and fellow students, and as an outlook for a promising international career. We visualized the horizon as a never-ending changing landscape, with colours that blend into each other and create new perspectives.

Result

The result is a bright and colourful brand identity that sparks joy and engagement. A brand identity that underlines that knowledge of language and culture is crucial to be able to communicate and collaborate, nationally and internationally.
